Well, after much frustration, it is done. I invite you to visit my work in progress, my new online shop for photography gifts and stationary at www.cafepress.com/CoyoteLaughing. I am still learning and have made some mistakes, which I am sure is a normal thing to do. But, it has begun. My first series of items is called, Summer Pleasures. I still have a few more things to add so that I can offer some mix and match items.
It sure took a long time to get rolling, but now I think I have the hang of it. I made the error of creating many of my first items in the 'create and buy' section. This was a mistake. When you open the store, you may not be able to transfer items that have already been created. Fortunately, I did not open a Basic shop (you can't transfer from 'create and buy' to a Basic shop) and I was able to eventually transfer the items I already made. It took a little help from the help center at Cafepress. I must say they were prompt and quite helpful. Thank goodness!
In addition to adding items without text to my Summer Pleasures Collection, I have a few other collections in the works; Sunsets, Butterflies, Flowers-Wild and Garden Variety, and eventually some travel sets. And somewhere in there, I intend to get my new blog up and running. Realistically, that might not happen until early August and I have some time off coming as I transition out of full time work to self-employed. But it WILL happen.
With only two weeks left at my full time job, I am right on schedule. Actually, I sort of wish I had begun this part of the process earlier, but what can I say. Life happens!
So, please checkout my online store and let me know what you think.
I invite you to pull up a chair, fill your cup, and join me as I navigate the ups and downs of an everyday life. Find quiet reflections, a rant or two, conversations and simple thoughts on the day to day journey; and a few glimpses into my ever hopeful journey to travel and to live an artist's life. It is my hope that something you read here will bring a smile to your face or support you on your own journey.

Behind the Scenes
It's a winter wonderland out there! About 20 inches of snow fell last week, and we are getting a little more today.
It's a good thing I love the snow, not to mention having an extra day or so off from my 9-5.
Wordpress, Blogger, or ?
I have actually been quite busy trying to educate myself on different blog/web hosting sites. My level of techno-knowledge is close to non-existent so it is a slow process. Blogger or Wordpress seem to be the top choices for my next blog. I have to get past the thinking that it is a "forever" choice.
How Many Blogs and/or Websites?
I have settled on having one or two blogs vs. having many. I will keep this blog because it is a record of my blogging and business journey and I would like to continue this journal. I have discovered from other things, that sometimes the more I learn, the less I know. So this blog will provide a good way for me to look back. And hopefully, it might provide some fodder for others as they begin their blogging and/or entry into the entreprenural world.
Then, I want to create a blog of "place." I really can't verbalize it just yet, which is the other reason I can't begin it just yet. I can see the end result, and I am working on the theme, theme statement, and an opening post. I want categories and subcategories on this blog so I am pretty sure it will be a hosted Wordpress blog. I have a plan for the categories laid out and it seems to flow nicely.
If there is to be another blog (oh, I guess that makes three), then it will be strictly business and have references to the blog of "place." This blog needs some type of service for people to place orders and see what services I offer beyond the stationary. I still need to determine if I will continue to offer outdoor programs to scout groups, etc. and to what extent I want to spend my time doing that. I do think that rather than a blog, this might end up being a regular website and I am looking at GoDaddy for that, and to host the Wordpress blog.
If anybody out there is reading my blog and has thoughts about blogs, websites, hosting services, etc. that might help me decide what to do, I am all ears.

Day 14 & 15
Phew! Last night I was crusing along making notecards and didn't post. I really had fun with the artistic editing of the photos I was working with. I am very pleased with how things turned out and once I "regroup" I will post a few photos of the completed sets.
And although the artistic creating took a little longer than the simple touches I was making on the notepads, the whole process was much easier! Well, once I got the layout and print figured out correctly. There is a lot less cutting with the notecards than notepads.
I am happy, very happy, to say that I will complete my order on schedule by the end of this evening. I have 1 1/2 sets of notecards to finish up-and then....Done! The only thing that will be left is a few finishing touches of few ribbons to tie the sets together and get them in the mail. YEA!
This has been an awesome learning experience in time management, efficient work flow, and use of my software and I hope to take a little time tomorrow night and recap those lessons a litte for myself. When I have given that a proper thought, I'll share what I learned. Then, it's back to focusing on blogs and other things for the final days of my challenge. Although, I have been looking into different website design things....it hasn't been all stationary making over the last couple weeks.
For now, it's off to the 9-5.

Day 12
It seems sort of silly to write that I am not going to write tonight. This is just a check in post for my 21 Day Challenge to do something everyday for blog and hoped for new business.
I have spent a lot of time focusing on getting a stationary order ready. Tonight is no different. There is also some reading in Problogger in my future tonight.
Then, to be honest- it is time for a little popcorn, something refreshing to go with it, and a little TV.
Back to the 9-5 tomorrow and
tonight I get a little time off.
Cheers!

...Go! Day 1

Today is Day 1 of my
21 Day Challenge to do something every day for blog and business. It is also my husband's birthday. So my word and focus for today is committment, with a little bit of "presence" thrown in.
"Committment" because I choose to honor my committment to my challenge AND also to spend time with my husband to celebrate his birthday.
"Presence" because I am trying to "be present" and give my full attention to whatever I am doing. That is not always an easy thing to do when I have put so much on my agenda.
So a full day of work at my 9-5, an evening of pizza and birthday cookies with husband, daughter, and granddaughter, and now... my challenge.
My goal tonight is not to write an amazing post, although I wish I could. My goal is simply to be here and to write as a first step toward creating a habit of daily activity. And, I will read Chapter Four, Blog Writing, from Problogger before I go to bed.
I have an idea hatching about tomorrow night's post, but it is a little too philosophical for me tonight and I need to think it out. My plan for Day 2 is to make a blog post and to begin working on some photo stationary designs for a friend who is giving them as holiday gifts.
Stay tuned!

My 21 Day Challenge
Well, I was supposed to begin my 21 day challenge for blog and business a week ago when I returned from being out of town. I returned on Sunday, slept all day Monday, worked 10 hours each on Tuesday and Wednesday, then came Thanksgiving and the weekend. Which all brings me to today. I am not looking back and feeling bad about putting this off. I am just beginning on a different date.
My challenge will be December 1 through December 21--- 21 days. I have spent time thinking about how to define this challenge and think it will have to remain somewhat undefined. This is not meant to be evasive, it's just that there is so much that can be done. There are two things I can define though. One is that I have to blog each night about what has been done that day. The second is that I will spend at least one hour daily doing whatever I do.
Some options for activities during this challenge include, and are not limited to;
*writing a blog post, other than just a report of the daily activity
*working on my online blog class
*creating photo stationary
*creating a web page or some type of online store
*creating another blog
*finalizing my business name
*reading at least one other blog daily
So there you have it. My goal for this, my first 21 day challenge, is to develop a habit of doing something every day with the belief that even an hour a day will move me forward toward my real goal of a successful blog and business.
So stay tuned, and consider joining me in creating your own 21 day challenge. Is there something you would like to see more progress in? Tell me about it.

Blog School
This is just a quick "check in" post to track my efforts to do something every day for blog and business. I have been looking at my pictures and taking some new ones when the moment and opportunity hit me. In addition, I have been thinking up phrases I might use with the photos on stationary or a card. That has been fun.
I have also been thinking about what/when I might begin my first real blog. Remember, this one is for practice and for tracking my progress for blog and business. Problem is, I have become sort of stuck with this blog because it is more of a personal blog and not the kind I will likely begin and so there are things I have not tried here. There is more I would like to learn before I proceed. I want to make the right impression the first time and do it right so I am stalled. So tonight I began going to online blog school. No, really. I have read some books, but I really like being able to hear and see someone explain how to do things, even if it is on video. Thanks ProBlogger.net, I am excited about this chance and hope it will help me to the next step.

I'm Expanding
I am now a member of the Whole Living Daily Challenge Community at http://www.wholeliving.com/ and have added a few blog posts there. I have also applied there to begin two new groups; In Between for those of us who are at the in-between stage of life where we care for and support those both younger and older in our family group, and 50+ and Counting for those of us who are 50 years young, and beyond, who want to stay active and enjoy life. Both groups are awaiting approval and I'll keep you posted.
Although I have not created a whole new blog and these do not directly fit into my business plan, I do feel this fits into my overall life goals. I will continue to add blog posts and if the groups are approved, I will spend some time with those as well. And in reality, since life is not, or should not be, compartmentalized, I guess this really does fit into my business plan. Not only am I writing more and expanding my reach, I am also seeking to find ways to stay balanced and healthy so that I can work my business and enjoy all aspects of my life. So it fits.
Hey, there is that 'balance' word again. No, I don't mean balanced as in all things being equal and even, but rather balanced as in giving attention, at some regular interval, to all things that are important. I still like the visual example of juggling where you are working with many different balls, and you focus on just one at a time. To me it is like being in the moment. There are many aspects (juggling balls) to my life, and I can not pay attention to all of them at the same time and do any of them well. Remember the plate balancing acts? Well, I used to be the person who was struggling to keep all the plates balanced at the same time and running back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and .....well you get the idea. No more of that. It is exhausting, and for me, not a healthy way to live.
So I am doing something everyday, expanding my reach (adding another juggling ball), adding another blog post here; and today I will be reading other people's blogs, working on choosing my first photo gift/stationary designs, and doing other photography related things.
Momentum is a beautiful thing and I feel mine picking up again.

I'm Hatching a Plan
The say it takes 21 days to make a habit. Well, I need to get back into the habit of doing something everyday for blogs and business. So I intend to give myself a 21 day challenge.
I am considering whether or not I need to have a specific focus or will be content with a splatter effect. I may just go for the splatter effect, just to get it started. I do have one issue though, in 14 days I am going to be away from my computer for a week or so and it will interfere with my 21 day challenge.
So, here is my plan; I begin my personal 21 day challenge on Monday, November 22.
I will define my challenge then.
As for today, I joined an online blogging community at Whole Living. I am a member of the Whole Life Action Plan Group. Well I think I am. I am waiting for an "approval" email.
Now, if I can just get my computer to keep working. It froze up on me today and some very loud "alarm" went off. I may be looking at a new computer.

Catching Up-or Picking up the Pieces
It is a cold, blustery day here in the Midwest. I got a call early this morning that the offices where I work are out of power and I don't have to come in until 10:00am. It was nice to get a little more sleep and to now sit with coffee in hand, watching the autumn colors blow outside my window.
It has been awhile since I have looked at, much less written, on my blog. And although I won't write much right now, I just wanted to let my readers know I am still here. Since my father's passing earlier this month, I have been spent time with memories, getting caught up at home, at work and helping my mom catch up, too. With this brief, but most welcome gift of time, I thought I would take a few minutes to do a little catch up inventory for blog and business.
A few things fell by the wayside over the last month and hold some lessons learned. Even though most of these are directly connected to my dad's illness over the past year and the sad events of October, I believe that some of these hold lessons that would be true, regardless. I take on too much too fast. A recipe for disaster. And because a lesson learned is really not helpful unless there is a plan for applying the lesson, I will include my plan, too. And I am stopping at three.
-I totally forgot about and "flunked" my two online courses for photography and online writing. I flunked them only because I did not finish them by the deadline. Two online courses were too much with everything else I was trying to do, not to mention working a fulltime job.
Lesson learned; don't be so eager that it becomes too much and nothing gets done.
So, I will take them again. This time, I will just take one at a time. My deadline; hmmm, not sure with holidays approaching, but will have signed up by year's end.
-All my plans to get designs into an online store stopped, as did creating more designs
Lesson learned; I don't need a full line of product to begin and to open an online presence. I just need to begin with a few good choices and get the account/store created.
Choose four designs, then open a Cafepress shop by year's end with photo gifts and stationary.
I stopped doing something everyday. That's ok, the lesson here is sometimes there are more important things in life.
No regrets, I was where I needed to be. Begin again, today. Do Something Everyday!
Now, to be fair, I have done something over the past few weeks. I was very pleased and honored to have created my dad's memorial service program. I worked hard with my new software to get it just right and learned a lot about the Serif PlusX4. The heart that went into this project will be a good standard to hold the rest of my work to.
And so today begins a new day.

Progress Report on Blog and Business
Blog Progress
You can be assured that if I am not posting every day, I am doing something to learn about blogging. I have been reading my new copy of Problogger by Dareen Rowse and Chris Garrett, visiting www.problogger.net by Darren Rowse, or checking out other blogs. Today I checked out problogger.net and read an article from a guest blogger, Annabel Candy, and then checked out her blog. Wow! I'm hooked on www.getinthehotspot.com.
Photography Progress
If I am not doing or learning about blogging every day, then I am doing something for my hoped for 'business of the heart' that I am laying groundwork for. Recently, I have been playing with a trial program I downloaded last week from Serif. As I write this, I am downloading the full version of Serif PagePlus X4. I have really enjoyed working with it. I know I have only scratched the surface of what it can do and am very excited about it.
Keepin' it Brief
And because PagePlus is still downloading and I don't have the fastest laptop anymore, I am going to keep this post very short. So until next time...do someting you love every day!
P.S. I was trying to change the page background color for this post. This is what I got, just text background. Back to the books!

Let it Unfold...continued
I may not be writing in my blog everyday, but I am doing something every day. I have been sitting with my ideas and stirring things around. Each time I stir, I find a new scenario to sit with and feel what life with that particular scenario might be like. I am asking some tough questions to guide my way. Two of my favorite questions I ask myself when I am trying to make big decisions that will effect my life, and those I love are;
1. When all is said and done and I am at the end of my life, who will I want around me? What memories and values will I hope to leave with those I love? What regrets of things done/not done might I have? What would I hope people say about me? What stories would they share? (this is really one BIG question).
2. If money and time were no object, what would I be doing?
I don't want to get so caught up in things that I lose track of who, and what, is most important in my life. I would like my greatest successes in life to be my relationships with my family and friends. If I listen carefully to my heart, and head, I believe my business can have that level of success as well, and add to my personal relationships. And if I walk my business path with integrity and have passion for what I do, I believe that some degree of financial success with also follow.
The first question helps to keep me from getting lost, the second helps me to prioritize. There are things in my plan that are included as ways to support the rest, or to bring in a little more income, hopefully. I am not sure I would do these things if I didn't have to. Although, I believe these things I hold in question have value, I also believe they are secondary and supportive. Then there are the things I really want to do which should take the majority of my time and focus. I realize this is vague to the reader. I am not sure the detail is as necessary for me to share as the process. It is a work in progress and there is still some stirring to be done.
Now that I am closer to knowing where to put my greater energies, I have another question I am stirring around. Do I quit my full time job and pray for the best. Or, do I stay as long as I can while my business gets started. The obvious benefit of staying with the job is the full time pay. The downside is that I work nights, weekends, weekdays. My hours are quite flexible and all have to fit into a 40 hour work week. Then I have home and family time and all that entails. And I am spending time each week with my parents who live in another town. I also hope to have a little downtime here and there. So my time to invest in this business is quite fragmented to say the least. I do know I have many options and I am confident I will know what to do when the time comes.
I have registered for two more online classes that I hope will move me closer to my goal, both personally and professionally.
So, there you have it for today, doing something everyday and letting it all unfold. I am not in a hurry, yet have my eyes on the calendar.

Describe the Dream
I am back from my wonderful vacation with friends from the past, now part of my present and future. After taking a little time to catch up at home and work, I am ready to jump back in to my blog and my dream of creating my business of the heart.
After my last post, I realized just how much I am trying to do all at the same time. SO, just as sometimes I need the creativity to flow, sometimes I need to nail down specifics-or at least have a plan to follow. And because I tend to be a visual person, I made a list and posted it here for all to see, and to keep me on task.
My first task, then, is for me to begin at the end by describing the dream. I am going to brainstorm this dream right now. I reserve the right to add/subtract/rearrange anything and everything here. I also ask the reader to realize that this is not necessarily meant to happen all at once or all the time. The following are intended to be parts of a larger whole; and I love variety.
(I am also planning this with flexibility of time in mind. There are reasons in my life I am seeking to leave the structured, but safe, life of a 40hr/week full time job. The people in my life are my priority, my biggest dream and greatest blessing. And there may be a time coming soon when I will be at odds with having to punch the work clock everyday for someone else. )
The goal, or desire, of my business of the heart is about connecting people and nature; empowering people via nature and for nature. It is about finding a sense of place, and self, in nature; it is about finding the beautiful, the spiritual in oneself, and nature.
It is also about teaching, inspiring, others to spread the word and share the passion of our amazing natural world and the people in it, including oneself.
It is also about telling the story of a place, its natural and cultural history and how they are intertwined. It is about making connections.

Well, there you have it. I don't think this is all of it, but the bulk of it. This is the big picture. Soon I will break it down into phases/priorities/ or maybe just what is easiest to begin with. For now this feels incredibly good. I can see the big picture. (ps. I just learned you can't create a tabbed column entry on a blog. I had to redo everything.)
This blog was my first step. This post, my second step. Actually my second step was drafting prototypes of some of the stationary ideas for my friends to critique. Many thanks to my dear friends for their kind words and support. This post is my third step then. It has begun, one step and then another........
Through it all I have family and friends. Who could ask for more. Each of you are my true dream. The reality is, I would like to make a living, too. I found a long time ago, to be able to make a living at what you truly enjoy is also a blessing. I have truly enjoyed what I have done for many years and will be doing much of the same thing. The difference is, I will be doing it for me, on my time. I like that idea.
Here is my question for you; if you could do anything you wanted to do to make a living, what would it be? What is your dream job/career/life path?

Do Something Every Day
Do Something Every Day. This is my new mantra for learning how to blog, and other things.
On today's 'to do list' was to add a site counter and to learn how to add pictures. Site counter completed, I moved on to the picture. As you can see from the picture of the beautiful Swallowtail butterflies on the Joe Pye, I was successful. These are both Tiger Swallowtail butterflies. According to my field guide, the darker one is a female. I took the picture, and many others, the other evening in my backyard. Every now and then they would take to the sky in a beautiful swirling dance, then return to the Joe Pye. It was quite an unexpected gift as I had just by chance looked out my kitchen window. Not one to let the moment pass, I grabbed my camera and headed out the door.
I am also planning on adding a list of favorites and links. And I may get rid of the quotes, like the quotes, not the ads. However, I do plan to link up to Amazon and a few other things like that. I mention this because one of the first links I am going to put in is an online site for online classes. I have recently taken two classes and plan to take others. I took a grammar 101 in preparation for putting my writing where someone might actually see it. And I took a digital photography primer. I have been using a digital SLR for a few years, but I wanted to get a feel for how the online classes work and also to review some of the basics. I liked the classes and will be taking more. So, I'll try to get the website into a sidebar.
On another note, I drove into work early this morning in a light layer of fog that covered the hills down to the river near where I work. I noticed geese gathering in the fields already, also flocks of blackbirds. Could it be they are already preparing for southerly migrations? Thinking of them brings to mind the transitions I am working through, or toward. But, I am keeping this post short tonight as I have already spent considerable time on the computer trying to figure out the site counter thing. I had my morning coffee at work today and am about to go spend some time with my family.

Grab a Cup of Coffee and Join Me
Welcome to my blog. Grab a cup of coffee or tea and join me.
This is my first blogging adventure and I must admit I am a bit nervous. I stressed thinking about what to call my blog until it occured to me that anything related to coffee would work for me. I have had some wonderful morning moments gently greeting the new day with my full coffee cup in hand. More importantly, there have been deep, powerful conversations as well as a few lighthearted silly conversations, all with coffee cup in hand and someone else sharing the coffee pot. So Coffee Time it is!
I was about to write that I am not blogging to sit by myself in those quiet coffee moments, but to invite you to a conversation. However, I believe I am blogging for both. I have journaled for years and realize the power and clarity that can be experienced from getting thoughts, writings, and/or emotions onto paper, or blog, where you can "see" them. So this is a blog for me to enjoy the quiet moments AND it is to invite you to into conversation.
I have enjoyed, usually, walking many pathways in my life and am in the process of trying to decide on another. Nothing dramatic, just different from where I am now. There will be plenty of time for that discussion next time, and beyond. And somewhere in the process of discerning where I am going, I imagine there will be some looking to see where I have been and a little of this and day from the day to day.
But for now, I am wondering what kind of coffee cup do you prefer? Just like my life pathways have been varied and many, I enjoy many types of cups. It all depends on the day, the place, the statement I choose to make that day, etc. I have an Alaska mug I use when I want to remember the wild places in my life. (you will learn I am nuts about nature) There is a softly colored seashell mug I use for relaxing mornings. There are a few chipped mugs I use now and then, too. They remind me I don't have to be perfect, it's ok to have a little character. There are others, but you get the idea. So, what kind of cup, or mug, do you prefer-and why?
One last thing, I really have no idea what I am doing with setting up a blog. So please be patient if I change things around now and then while it gets figured out. There is a plan and it looks good in my head, we will just have to wait and see if it also looks good on the page.
I am a cup is half full kind of person, but empy is empty, or an opportunity to get a refill. Right now it is time to walk another path, so empty is how it will stay. There will be another pot of coffee on tomorrow and I always keep an empty chair for visitors.
